Beijing: In a tragic incident in China’s Qinghai province, the central section of an under-construction bridge suddenly collapsed, killing 12 people and leaving 4 others missing, according to media reports.
The accident occurred on a bridge being built over the Yellow River, when a steel cable snapped unexpectedly during construction. As a result, the middle portion of the bridge fell into the river, causing multiple casualties.
Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site and operations are underway to locate the missing workers. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
The disaster has once again raised serious concerns over construction safety standards in China, particularly in large-scale infrastructure projects.
