Karachi: A powerful explosion at a fireworks storage facility in Al-Amna Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road rocked Karachi, with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) confirming in its report that nearly 500 kilograms of fireworks ignited during the blast.
According to police sources, the explosion caused severe damage to the building, while the sound was heard up to 7 kilometers away. The BDS report revealed that the blast led to devastation within a 100-meter radius.
During the search operation, officials discovered two warehouses on the ground floor filled with fireworks material, as well as additional stock in two rooftop rooms. Moreover, in a nearby ground, two containers loaded with fireworks were found, bringing the total stockpile to over 5,000 kilograms.
Sources disclosed that raw materials were imported from Balochistan, Lahore, and even China, while some fireworks were locally manufactured in an empty plot behind the building.
The report recommended that the remaining fireworks material be immediately shifted to a safe location to prevent further disasters.
Police officials warned that fireworks explosives are highly unstable, capable of igniting due to friction, heat, matches, or even short circuits, making them extremely dangerous if not handled with proper safety measures.
