Mexican Beauty Influencer Shot Dead During TikTok Livestream
A 23-year-old Mexican social media influencer was shot and killed during a TikTok livestream, according to the state prosecutor’s office.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office reported that Valeria Márquez was fatally shot when an individual entered her beauty salon in Guadalajara and “apparently opened fire on her.”
While the motive behind the deadly attack remains unknown, authorities are investigating the case as a femicide—a gender-based murder of a woman or girl due to her gender.
Gender-based violence is widespread in Mexico. According to United Nations reports, ten women or girls are killed daily, often by partners or family members.
Valeria Márquez’s Last Moments Caught on Camera
Just moments before her death, Márquez was seen sitting at a table in her salon in the suburban area of Zapopan, holding a stuffed animal.
Seconds later, she was shot dead. The livestream footage ends abruptly when another individual grabs her phone to stop the recording.
Local media reports say the attacker posed as someone delivering a gift before carrying out the fatal shooting.
Police arrived at the scene around 6:30 PM local time (00:30 GMT) and confirmed Márquez’s death, according to the state prosecutor’s office.
As of now, no suspect has been named by authorities.
Fan Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
Valeria Márquez had nearly 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram. Fans expressed horror and grief over the news of her tragic death.
According to AFP, Zapopan Mayor Juan José Frangie stated that his office had no record of Márquez requesting protection due to threats. He added, “Femicide is the worst thing a community can face.”
The forensic team is currently investigating the scene and analyzing evidence related to the shooting.
