Shaheed Arif Hussain Al-Hussaini The Revolutionary Light of Pakistan That Still Shines Bright
Shaheed Allama Syed Arif Hussain Al-Hussaini (25 November 1946 – 5 August 1988) was a prominent spiritual leader of the Shia community in Pakistan. He was the founder of Tehreek Nifaz Fiqh Jafariya and a strong advocate of Muslim unity. His short but impactful life was a story of Islamic revolution, resistance against oppression, and inter-sect harmony.
Early Life and Education
Born in the village of Pewar in Parachinar, this brave leader received his early religious education in his hometown. In 1967, he traveled to Najaf, Iraq, to complete his Islamic studies under scholars like Ayatollah Madani and Murtazavi.
Spiritual Bond with Imam Khomeini
In Najaf, he became part of the close circle of Imam Khomeini. Praying behind him, learning his revolutionary thoughts, and introducing his movement in Pakistan became Arif Hussaini’s mission.
Revolutionary Activities in Qom Iran
In 1973, due to Saddam Hussein’s oppression in Iraq, he moved to Qom, Iran. There, he completed his advanced religious education and played an active role in Imam Khomeini’s movement against the Shah of Iran, which even led to his imprisonment.
Leadership of Tehreek Nifaz Fiqh Jafariya TNFJ
In 1984, he was elected as the head of TNFJ. He laid a strong foundation for the implementation of an Islamic system, resistance against tyranny, and Shia Sunni unity across Pakistan. General Zia ul Haq’s dictatorship considered his rising popularity a serious threat.

Quran and Sunnah Conference A Historic Gathering
On 6 July 1987, a massive Quran and Sunnah Conference was held at Minar e Pakistan Lahore, attended by millions of Shia and Sunni Muslims. It became a historic symbol of Muslim unity in Pakistan.
Martyrdom Victim of a Conspiracy
On 5 August 1988, he was martyred in Peshawar after Fajr prayer by unknown gunmen. Upon his martyrdom, Imam Khomeini stated
“This tragedy will hurt the hearts of Muslims, but the path of the martyr will always remain alive”
